Licentiate (JCL): This degree is conferred upon the completion of the three-year second cycle (with a general weighted average of 2.000), submission of a written thesis under the guidance of a Moderator, a written comprehensive examination on the entire Code of Canon Law, a successful oral examination (including the thesis defense) before a panel of three examiners appointed by the Dean. An applicant must be formally accepted or actually enrolled in a licentiate program in canon law at any pontifical faculty.
